Congo Medical Clinic

Help us build a clinic in the Congo…
Before leaving his native Democratic Republic of Congo, Dieudonné Kankolongo Milambo was the president of a student organization named Past Pupils of Don Bosco seeking to help disadvantaged communities around the capital of Kinshasa. They focused their efforts on the area of Mangala and its surrounding villages: Kingantoko, Mbuki, Kimwisi, Trois Maisons, Biseka, and Kinsinda.
Mangala had no medical services and the nearest facility was a 2 hour walk or 45 minute car ride on a bumpy dirt road where few villagers had access to a vehicle. For example, most pregnant women delivered at home but would have to endure a grueling journey or risk death if a complication arose.
They partnered with the community to construct a building that operated as a pharmacy from 2005-2010. There, patients could access medications that otherwise would require a trip to the big city to buy. Unfortunately, when Dieudonné left to come to the United States, no one had contacts with people in the village and the pharmacy was closed down.
However, when Dieudonné left, with other Past pupils, he made a promise to return and now he intends to make good on his promise. The access to medical care has not changed since then and people are still in dire need of options close to home.
We are working to re-open the pharmacy and partner with the community to keep it running and eventually expand. Our project has 4 phases:
1.) Re-opening the pharmacy and purchasing medications for the initial stock
2.) Electrifying the clinic with solar panels
3.) Plumbing for running water
4.) Construction for expansion into a full medical clinic running year round
We need your help to raise the first $10,000 so we can buy medications to stock the pharmacy. Once it opens, locals will staff the pharmacy and sell medications at a reasonable but sustainable price so it can remain running year-round, independently. One hundred percent of your donation (after platform fees) will go directly to the purchase of medications that will help save lives.
Please help Dieudonné and the Past pupils of Don Bosco/Kinshasa keep their promise.More information coming soon…
